Organic Garden Fertilizer
We may start to adding organic fertilizer to the garden after we prepare the raised bed. After the raised bed are there, start out with a good layer of old cow dung or old horse manure. To this we can add either Llama pellets or Rabbit pellets (rabbit droppings which are like nature?s time released fertilizer). Add 20 lbs of rock dust or any other trace mineral source. To this we can add 20 lbs of alfalfa meal and 2 bales of aged wood. After mixing well we can water them well.(Initially watering should be done mildly to allow soil to absorb). Add 500 lbs of compost (if you have it prepared it prior to preparing the raised bed) otherwise add enough old horse manure to fill up to 5-6 inches from the top. To this add another 2 bale aged wood or KRA wood product or any other light soil.
The old wood products will insure the pH will be at the right place. The range of good pH for the garden is 6.5 to 6.8. Blend everything in together and watering as you go. Finally add enough mulch to fill the raised bed to the top. As this mulch soil will settle after a few days, so keep a sufficient quantity of mulch bags handy to fill to top when needed.
COMPOSTING
Compost is the most vital components when we grow organically. It is an art in itself that we must learn before we become Master Organic Gardeners.
Different types of Composting
Green Composting: A major portion of our landfill materials around 30% come from this area of our wastes. Grass clippings, fallen leaves, etc. make great additions to this compost. A shredder will help to ramp up the composting process.
Kitchen Composting: Kitchen wastes are valuable ingredients for our compost. We can keep a small container near the kitchen area for this purpose. We can compost all our kitchen wastes and recycled paper and wooden wastes. Whatever thing that can compost is saved. Learning to make compost is a great way to take something that is being thrown away and turns it into food for the soil, for the plants, and food for us. This is recycling at its best! We should make sure to empty the container for compost every day. These can composting the kitchen wastes by layering. You can Kitchen wastes can also be buried into your garden allowing the worms a meal. Moreover we can add some rock dust to kitchen waste which will help reduce bad odour and fly?s, and will also increase the microbial activity.
